Xochicalco (English spelling)
Located in the state of Morelos, Mexico, this is a representative walled city ruin of the Toltec culture, part of the Late Classic period of Mesoamerica. The stone monuments and the reliefs of the Feathered Serpent Temple combine art styles from all over Mesoamerica, and many researchers believe it to be the same as Tamoanchan, a gathering place of various groups mentioned in mythology. Many of the elements that characterize the Late Classic period after the fall of Teotihuacan, such as the stone-ringed ball court and the belief in the god Quetzalcoatl, have their origins here.
