A palace in the English Baroque style located near Woodstock, Oxfordshire, in the central south of England. General John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, who defeated the French army at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704, received this palace, which was still under construction at the time, as a reward from Queen Anne. J. Vanbrugh was in charge of construction from 1705 to 1724, and it was completed at a huge cost to the nation. Later, the name Blenheim was changed to the English pronunciation and the palace was named "Blenheim Palace". It is also known as the birthplace of W. Churchill. Its gardens are also famous as the basis for modern English gardens (→Blenheim Palace Gardens). It was registered as a cultural heritage of the World Heritage Site in 1987.
