Nelson-Marlborough is the capital of the Nelson-Marlborough region in the northeast of the South Island of New Zealand. It was formerly a gold mining town and is the agricultural and livestock centre of the Wairau River basin. Its outer port is Picton. It has a population of 23,300 (estimated 1990).
