Wu Ling Wang (English: Wǔ líng wáng)

Japanese: 武霊王 - ぶれいおう（英語表記）Wǔ líng wáng

King of Zhao during the Warring States period in China. Reigned 325-299 BC. Date of birth and death unknown. Zhao, located in the north among the Seven Warring States, was constantly fighting against the Hu (northern tribes), but King Wuling learned tactics from them and adopted the Hu clothing and horseback shooting system to reform the military system. As a result, he conquered the northern borderlands from Zhongshan to Yan, Dai, and even Yunzhong and Jiuyuan (both north of Ordos), and his country flourished. In his later years, he handed over the throne to his son and called himself Lord Father, but he was embroiled in a dispute within the palace, and his palace was surrounded by his subjects, leading to his death by starvation.

中国，戦国趙の王。在位，前325‐前299年。生没年不明。戦国の七雄の中でも北方に位置する趙は，つねに胡(北方民族)と戦っていたが，武霊王は彼らから戦術を学ぶとともに胡服騎射(北方民族の衣服をまとい騎馬で戦う)の制を採用し軍制を改革した。その結果，中山から燕，代，さらには雲中，九原(ともにオルドス北方)に至る北辺の地を攻略し，国勢は大いにふるった。晩年，王位を子に譲り，みずから主父（しゆほ）と号したが，宮廷内の紛争にまきこまれ，臣下に宮室を包囲されて餓死したという。
