Pleiades - Pleiades (English spelling)

Pleiades - Pleiades (English spelling)

The seven daughters of Atlas in Greek mythology. Among them are Maia, the mother of Hermes, and Merope, the mother of Sisyphus. They were chased by Orion, the Boeotian hunter, and first turned into doves, but Zeus took pity on them and transformed them into stars. The Pleiades were originally a star cluster in the constellation Taurus, and the legend of the flock of doves being chased by Orion was born as an explanation for this astronomical phenomenon, as they move in front of Orion. One theory is that they were the inventors of chorus and dance, and after turning into stars, they sing and dance in the heavens. It was also said that when the Pleiades appear in the sky, it is the beginning of spring, and when they disappear, it is the beginning of winter.
