A feudal lord in the Dewa Province during the Sengoku period. In the Edo period, he was the lord of Miharu Domain in Mutsu Province. He was a descendant of Abe Sadato, the head of the Mutsu Province prisoners of war, and initially, as the Ando clan, had jurisdiction over the northern part of Mutsu Province as well as Ezo. At the end of the Sengoku period, Shimonokuni Chikasue emerged and unified the divided Ando clan. He consolidated control over his territory as a Sengoku daimyo, and is said to have taken the name Akita after the place name of Akitaminato in Dewa (present-day Akita City) or the official title of Akita Jonosuke. After Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Oshu Shioki, in 1591, Hideyoshi gave Sanesue, Sanesue's son, over 52,000 koku of rice. In 1602, he was transferred to the Shishido Domain in Hitachi Province with a fief of 50,000 koku, and in 1645 he was transferred to the Miharu Domain with a fief of 55,000 koku, and the family continued to hold the title of lord of Miharu Domain for generations until the Meiji Restoration.
