... From the end of the Heian period to the Northern and Southern Court period, the population around Tosaka increased significantly, but most of them were car hirers, beggars, and Saka-hinin. In 1179 (Jisho 3), a fight broke out between these car hirers and the Gion masses, leading to the burning of the Kiyomizuzaka area, and in 1224 (Gannin 1) and 1244 (Kangen 2), Kiyomizuzaka hinin and Narasaka hinin from Yamato fought mass battles on this slope over the rights and interests of various lodgings, resulting in great commotion, all of which are well known in medieval history. During the Northern and Southern Court period, a prison known as "Saka no Kago" was set up on Tosaka, and punishment was administered to "prisoners in the prison" as well as Saka-hinin. ...
