In Greek mythology, Celeris is the younger brother of the winged horse Pegasus, and is said to have been a gift from the god Hermes to the hero Castor. It is also said that the Greek astronomer Hipparchus created this constellation. Alpha star has a luminosity of 4.1 and is named Chitalfa (meaning the front half of a horse).
