Originally the term meant a crusade, but in recent years it has come to be used by American evangelicals to mean mass evangelism or a missionary movement. Famous examples include the crusades of mass evangelist W. F. Graham in cities across the United States and in major cities around the world, including Osaka (1959) and Tokyo (1961), and the Campus Crusade, a missionary movement among American university students.
