A type of Kyoto doll. It got its name from the fact that small grooves are dug in the borders of the collar, sleeves, obi, and other parts of the costume of a wooden doll, and scraps of costume are glued and pressed into the grooves. It is said to have been invented by Takahashi Tadashige, a handmaiden at Kamo Shrine in Kyoto, during the Genbun era (1736-41) of the Edo period, using willow as the material, and is also called Kamo doll or Kamogawa doll. It was also popular during the time of Tadashige's grandson Daihachi, and hence the name Daihachi doll. It is made using a technique where cloth is pasted on, but it looks like the costume is already on the doll, and has the advantage that the costume does not fall apart.
