… The Anglican Church's overseas missions, which began with the British people's overseas expansion, were carried out by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPG) and the Church Missionary Society (CMS). After the Oxford Movement, the former advocated Anglo-Catholicism, while the latter advocated Low Church evangelism, and worked to spread the gospel around the world. In Japan, the first missionaries were CM Williams and John Liggins of the Anglican Church in the United States in 1859, and the first missionaries were sent by the CMS in 1869 and the SPG four years later. The three missionaries held their first general meeting in Osaka in 1887, and organized the Anglican Church in Japan as a province of the Anglican Church, which continues to this day. …

…　イギリス国民の海外進出とともに始まるアングリカン･チャーチの海外伝道は福音宣教協会(Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in foreign parts，略称SPG)と教会宣教協会(Church Missionary Society，略称CMS)によって進められ，オックスフォード運動以後は，前者がアングロ･カトリック主義を，後者が低教会派の福音主義を標榜して世界各地で伝道に努めた。日本では1859年アメリカ聖公会のC.M.ウィリアムズとリギンズJohn Ligginsが最初の宣教師として伝道を開始し，CMSが69年，SPGがその4年後に最初の宣教師を送り込んだ。3派の宣教師は87年に大阪で最初の総会を開き，日本聖公会をアングリカン･チャーチの1管区として組織して今日に至っている。…
