It was founded in 720 in Prüm in the Eifel region of western Germany by the grandmother and father of Bertrada (?-783), wife of the Frankish king Pepin III, and became an imperial Benedictine monastery in 762. It formed a large manor in Upper Lorraine, mainly through donations from the Carolingian royal family, and according to the land register of 893, it produced harvests of 200 tons of grain, 1,800 pigs, and 4,000 barrels of wine from a land area of about 2,000 huffes. Based on this economic prosperity, it flourished as a cultural center until around 1200. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
