Spanish conductor. Studied in Madrid and Munich. Served as principal conductor of the Madrid National Orchestra from 1962 (until 1978), and also guest conductor with orchestras in Europe and the United States. He also served as music director of the Düsseldorf Opera from 1966 to 1971, and as music director of the Montreal Orchestra in Canada from 1975. He was passionate about producing records of Spanish music, and recorded works by Falla, Albéniz, and others. He first visited Japan in 1974 at the invitation of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and became the orchestra's principal conductor in 1980.

スペインの指揮者。マドリードとミュンヘンで学ぶ。1962年からマドリード国立管弦楽団の常任指揮者を務め(‐1978)，同時に欧米各地のオーケストラに客演。さらに66年から71年までデュッセルドルフ歌劇場の音楽監督，75年からカナダのモントリオール管弦楽団の音楽監督を兼任した。スペイン音楽のレコード制作に熱意を注ぎ，ファリャ，アルベニスらの作品を録音している。74年読売日本交響楽団の招きで初来日，80年同楽団の常任指揮者に就任。
