A perennial herb of the family Araceae. It is found in the mountains of warm regions, distributed in eastern and southern Asia, Malaysia, Australia, and in Japan in southwestern Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and the Ryukyu Islands. The thick rhizome penetrates vertically underground, and the upper part is wrapped in old leaf fibers. The aboveground stem is short. All the leaves are basal, the outer ones are short and membranous, and the inner ones are linear lanceolate, 10-35 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, with parallel veins and scattered soft hairs. It flowers from May to August. The flower stalk is 1-3 cm long and bears 1-3 flowers. The capsule is brown and membranous. The flower stalk, ovary, and perianth are covered with long fine hairs. The perianth has six yellow lobes. The fruit is fleshy and does not dehisce. The Japanese name comes from the fact that the flower color is reminiscent of the golden plum and the leaves resemble bamboo grass.
