Republic of Buryatia (English spelling)

Japanese: ブリヤート[共和国]（英語表記）Buryat

A republic within the Russian Federation. It was an autonomous republic within the former Russian Soviet Republic, but declared itself a republic when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. Its area is 351,300 km2 and its population is 1,042,000 (1993). Its capital is Ulan-Ude. Located in southern Siberia, it occupies the eastern and southern parts of Lake Baikal, bordering Irkutsk Oblast and the Republic of Tuva to the west and Mongolia to the south. It has a mountainous topography, with the lowest point of the country, the shores of Lake Baikal, only 455 meters above sea level. Its climate is harsh and continental, with long, cold winters and little snow.

ロシア連邦内の共和国。旧ソ連邦ロシア共和国内の自治共和国であったが，1991年ソ連崩壊とともに共和国として主権宣言を行った。面積35万1300km2，人口104万2000(1993)。首都はウラン･ウデ。南シベリアに位置し，バイカル湖の東部と南部を占め，西はイルクーツク州およびトゥバ共和国と，南はモンゴルと接している。山がちの地形で，国土のなかでいちばん低いバイカル湖畔でも標高455mである。気候は厳しい大陸性で，冬は長くて寒く，雪は少ない。
