1755‐1826 The father of French gastronomy. He studied law at the University of Dijon and became a lawyer in his hometown. Until the early period of the French Revolution, he was active in the legal and political circles, serving as a member of the National Assembly and mayor of his hometown. However, during the Reign of Terror, he was forced into exile and traveled to Germany, Switzerland, and the United States, working in a variety of jobs, including apprentice chef, French teacher, and violinist, making the most of his side talents. After returning to France, he worked as a caterer for the General Staff of the Republic in Germany before returning to the legal world and spending the rest of his 25 years as a judge at the Supreme Court.
