Tsuneko Akamatsu

Japanese: 赤松常子 - あかまつつねこ

1897-1965 Labor activist and politician from the Taisho to Showa eras.
Born August 11, 1897. Younger sister of Akamatsu Chijo and Akamatsu Katsumaro. After dropping out of Kyoto Women's College (now Kyoto Women's University), she joined the Japan General Labour Federation in 1925, becoming head of the women's division and leading disputes in the textile industry and other areas. After the war, she became head of the women's division of the Socialist Party. In 1947, she was elected member of the House of Councillors (elected three times). Later, she participated in the formation of the Democratic Socialist Party. Died July 21, 1965. Age 67. Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

明治30年8月11日生まれ。赤松智城(ちじょう),赤松克麿(かつまろ)の妹。京都女子専門学校(現京都女子大)を中退後,大正14年日本労働総同盟にはいり,婦人部長となり,繊維産業などの争議を指導。戦後社会党婦人部長。昭和22年参議院議員(当選3回)。のち民社党結成に参加。昭和40年7月21日死去。67歳。山口県出身。
