The Imperial Bequests led to a rebellion (818) by Bernard, King of Italy (c. 797-818), which involved most of the court, and in 822 the Church ordered him to repent. Furthermore, when he had a youngest son, Charles II, with his second wife Judith (823), he revised the Imperial Bequests several times to secure his share, which led to a rebellion by his three already grown children (830), and Ebeau, Archbishop of Reims, and others joined in, leading to his temporary dethronement (833-835).
