Flap (English spelling)

Flap (English spelling)
In the broadest sense, it refers to the movable parts of the fixed wings of an aircraft, but it is usually used as a high-lift device, and in the narrowest sense, it refers to the parts installed on the trailing edge of the main wing (trailing edge flaps). Trailing edge flaps are movable trailing edge parts of the main wing that bend downward at low speeds during takeoff and landing, or bend downward while extending backward, thereby increasing the lift coefficient at a constant angle of attack. Leading edge flaps (slats) are movable leading edge parts of the main wing that bend downward at low speeds, or bend downward while extending forward, thereby increasing the stall angle of attack, thereby increasing the lift coefficient. Trailing edge flaps are installed on almost all airplanes today, and leading edge flaps are installed on many high-performance aircraft.
