Fubosho - The Book of Undetermination

Japanese: 不亡鈔 - ふぼうしょう

A collection of essays said to have been written by the Neo-Confucian scholar Muro Kyusu. It has 4 volumes and the date of its creation is unknown. It contains the author's views on scholarship, family, governance, and samurai across a range of topics, including scholarship, rites and music, teachers, filial piety, child-rearing, loyalty, the lord, agriculture, arts and commerce, prohibitions, magistrates, the daily life of a samurai, the battlefield, and murder. The text expresses ideas that differ from those of Neo-Confucianism, such as "the way of a sage is the heart of a baby" and "all things in heaven and earth are of the same origin and flow in one flow," providing evidence that it is a forgery. It has been handed down in manuscript form. It is included in the "Japanese Economic Series" and the "Japanese Economic Encyclopedia." [Kinugasa Yasuki]

朱子学者室鳩巣の作とされる随想録。4巻。成立年代は不明。学問，礼楽，師範，孝養，育児，忠義，主君，農工商，制禁，奉行，武士平常，戦場，追腹等の諸項目にわたって，学問や家，為政，武士についての著者の見解を記している。文中に〈聖人の道は赤子の心〉〈天地万物同源一流〉などの朱子学とは異なった思想が述べられていて，偽作説の根拠ともなる。写本で伝えられた。《日本経済叢書》《日本経済大典》所収。【衣笠安喜】
