Born: August 31, 1798 in Cadolzburg Died January 8, 1846. German legal scholar from Berlin. He started at the University of Munich in 1828, and served as professor of Roman law and canon law at the University of Marburg in 1835, the University of Leipzig in 1837, and the University of Berlin in 1842. As one of the representatives of the German school of historical law, he aimed to logically systematize the Roman law that had been inherited as German common law and adapt it to the current situation in 19th century Germany, based on the view that customary law is an expression of the national spirit and therefore occupies a central position in law. The results of his work were developed by B. Windscheidt and others, and established as Pandekten jurisprudence. His main works are Das Gewohnheitsrecht (2 volumes, 1828-37) and Lehrbuch der Pandekten (38).
