Funatoku

Japanese:
Funatoku

Rakugo. This is a rakugo story that started as a scene from the human interest story "Ohatsu Tokubei Ukina Pier" written by the first Kokontei Shinsho, and became an independent rakugo piece. Tokubei, a young master who was disowned due to his hobby, wants to become a boatman while living at a boathouse, and begins training to be one despite his boss's protests. When he is still unable to row properly, a guest comes to visit on the 46,000 days of the Asakusa Kannon, but the boatman is out, so Tokubei takes two guests on board and starts rowing. The guests are surprised when the boat approaches the stone wall and rocks violently. They finally make it to the Asakusa riverbank, but cannot reach the pier. One guest carries the other guest on his back and walks through the water to land. "We're going up, but you young men, you're all pale-faced, so let's push on, are you okay?" "Customers, when you go up, please hire a boatman." The current production of "Funatoku" was devised by the third San'yutei En'yu (Hana no En'yu) in the Meiji era, but was refined by the eighth Katsura Bunraku.
