Born: 1225, Silesia [Died] 1275 Polish scholastic philosopher. Studied in Padua. He developed a Neoplatonic metaphysics of light, and his interest in light led to his major work, "Opticae thesaurus," a theory of optics based on the theory of Ibnul Haytham (Alhazen). In this work, he argued that perception is only possible when mental judgment is added to sensory givens.
