A collection of short stories by the late 16th-century author Béroalde de Verville (1556-1612?). Published in 1610. This unique work depicts hundreds of famous people from past and present, from Aristotle and Caesar to Erasmus and Ronsard, attending a grand banquet and engaging in free-spirited discussion, and is peppered with candid, erotic humor throughout. The author, Béroalde, was a polymath who converted from Protestantism to Catholicism, and although he wrote many books, he is known for only this one work, published anonymously.

16世紀末の作家ベロアルド･ド･ベルビルBéroalde de Verville(1556‐1612？)の小話集。1610年刊。アリストテレスやカエサルから，エラスムスやロンサールにいたる数百名の古今の著名人が大宴会に列席し，好き勝手な論議をかわすという構成のもとに，全編にわたって無遠慮な好色笑話がちりばめられている特異な作品である。作者のベロアルドはプロテスタントからカトリックに改宗した博識家で，数多くの著作があるが，匿名で出版されたこの一作のみによって後世に名を残した。
