Dutch politician. Also known as De With. Born into the nobility of the city of Dordrecht. In 1653 he became legal adviser to the Parliament of Holland, and was the de facto leader of the Dutch Republic. He represented the interests of the province and the merchant class by suppressing the faction of the governor, and led two Anglo-Dutch wars. オランダの政治家。デ・ウィトとも。ドルドレヒトの都市貴族出身。1653年ホラント州議会の法律顧問となり，事実上オランダ共和国の最高指導者。総督派をおさえて州主権と商人層の利害を代表，２度の英蘭戦争（イギリス・オランダ戦争）を指導した。1672年フランス軍侵入の際，ハーグで虐殺された。
