A mountainous region that spreads across southwestern West Africa and central-western Guinea. Its average elevation is around 900m, and its topography is generally gently undulating. It is the source of the Niger River and the Senegal River, both of which are long-distance rivers in West Africa. The geology is made up of Paleozoic siliceous sandstone from the Cambrian to Devonian periods, and it is connected to the Loma Mountains of Sierra Leone to the south. This mountainous region is mainly inhabited by the pastoral Fulbe (Fulani) people, and is the main producer of cattle in Guinea. The river valleys are also cultivated for agricultural purposes, where bananas, coffee, pineapples, and other crops are grown.

西アフリカ南西部，ギニア中西部を中心に広がる山地。平均標高は900m前後で，全体にゆるやかな波状の地形を示す。西アフリカの長流ニジェール川やセネガル川の水源地帯をなしている。地質はカンブリア紀からデボン紀にいたる古生代のケイ質砂岩からなり，南方シエラレオネのロマ山地につながっている。この山地一帯はおもに牧畜民フルベ(フラニ)族の居住地で，ギニアにおける牛の主要な産出地となっている。また河谷には農耕地が開け，バナナ，コーヒー，パイナップルなどが作られる。
