A town in Miyako County facing the Suo Nada Sea in northeastern Fukuoka Prefecture. The Nippō Main Line and the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway pass through the town. During the Taisho period, a cement industry was established in the town, taking advantage of the town's abundant limestone and coal. After the war, Kanda Port was completed and developed into a coal and cement shipping port. A thermal power plant was also built and the town became an industrial port area.
