Also written as double-weave fabric. A type of patterned fabric. A patterned twill weave with warp and weft threads of the same color, with a large pattern woven in a floating weave using threads of a different color. Later, round patterns of floating twill came to be embroidered on a ground pattern such as tortoise shell or cobblestones. Used for court costumes. 二重織物とも書く。紋織物の一種。経緯糸同色の紋綾織の上に,さらに別の色糸で大型の模様を浮織に織り込んだもの。のちには亀甲や石畳などの地紋の上に浮紋綾の丸紋を繍うようになった。有職関係の装束に用いられる。
