Mishou [town] - Mishou

Japanese: 御荘[町] - みしょう

A former town in Minamiuwa District, facing the Bungo Channel in southern Ehime Prefecture. The town's name comes from the fact that it was a manor of Enryaku-ji Temple in the Middle Ages. The main settlement, Hirajo, is the district's center and developed as a temple town for Kanjizai-ji Temple. Citrus fruit cultivation is thriving, and pearls, yellowtail, and other fish are farmed here. The coast is part of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. There is a nature conservation facility for river otters (a special natural monument). In October 2004, it merged with Gusukube Town, Ipponmatsu Town, Nishiumi Town, and Utsumi Village in Minamiuwa District to form Ainan Town in Minamiuwa District. 50.33 ^km2 . 9,642 people (2003).

愛媛県南部，豊後(ぶんご)水道に臨む南宇和郡の旧町。町名は，中世延暦寺の荘園であったことに由来。主集落平城(ひらじょう)は観自在寺の門前町として発達した郡の中心地。柑橘(かんきつ)類の栽培が盛んで，真珠，ハマチなどの養殖を営む。海岸は足摺宇和海国立公園に属する。カワウソ（特別天然記念物）の自然保護施設がある。2004年10月南宇和郡城辺町，一本松町，西海町，内海村と合併し，南宇和郡愛南町となる。50.33km²。9642人（2003）。
