Spanish composer. Born in Seville. Served as a choirmaster at the Roman Catholic Church from 1535 to 1545, and established his reputation by publishing masses and other works. He later returned to Spain and served as choirmaster at Malaga Cathedral and other institutions. Most of his works are religious choral pieces, and are imbued with deep emotional expression in the advanced polyphonic techniques inherited from the Flemish school. The foundation of Spanish church polyphony, which Morales built, was passed on to Guerrero and Victoria, and the Golden Age of Spanish music was born under the reign of Flemish-born Charles I (Charles V) and his son Philip II (1556-1598).

スペインの作曲家。セビリア生れ。1535年−1545年ローマ教皇庁で聖歌隊員を務め，ミサ曲などを出版して名声を確立。その後スペインへ戻り，マラガ大聖堂などで聖歌隊長を歴任。作品のほとんどは宗教的合唱曲で，フランドル楽派から受け継いだ高度なポリフォニー技法の中に，深い感情表現が刻まれている。モラーレスがその礎を築いたスペインの教会多声音楽は，ゲレーロ，ビクトリアへと引き継がれ，フランドル出身のカルロス１世（カール５世）とその息子フェリペ２世治下（1556年−1598年），スペイン音楽の〈黄金世紀〉が誕生することになる。
