Japanese: 舞台衣裳(舞台衣装) - ぶたいいしょう

Costumes worn on stage. One type is worn by singers and musicians at concerts, while the other type is worn to help actors and dancers express their roles in the performing arts, such as theater, dance, opera, and musicals. (Note: In the case of Bugaku, Noh, and Kyogen, the word "shozoku" is used.)

In what follows, I will focus on costumes in the performing arts, but the starting point for thinking about stage costumes is to remember that stage costumes make up the largest part of an actor's make-up.
