An old town in Tsuna District, facing the Harima Nada Sea in the northwest of Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. Known for fruit cultivation such as loquats in Nojima and grapes in Ikuha. Toshima, in the center, is the largest fishing port on the west coast, catching sea bream, octopus, and other fish. Ise-no-mori and other areas belong to the Setonaikai National Park. In the January 1995 Southern Hyogo Prefecture earthquake, 39 people were killed and 2,209 houses collapsed or burned down. In April 2005, it merged with Tsuna Town, Awaji Town, Ichinomiya Town, and Higashiura Town in Tsuna District to become Awaji City. 51.07 km2 . Population 10,504 (2003). 兵庫県淡路島北西部,播磨灘(はりまなだ)に臨む津名郡の旧町。野島のビワ,育波(いくは)のブドウなど果樹栽培で知られる。中心の富島(としま)は西海岸随一の漁港で,タイ,タコなどを漁獲。伊勢ノ森などは瀬戸内海国立公園に属する。1995年1月の兵庫県南部地震では死者39人,倒壊・焼失家屋2209戸の被害をうけた。2005年4月津名郡津名町,淡路町,一宮町,東浦町と合併し市制,淡路市となる。51.07km2。1万504人(2003)。
