Year of death: Shoho 2.9.25 (1075.11.6) Year of birth: 2.6.7 (996.6.25) A nobleman in the mid-Heian period. He was called O-Nijo-dono. He was Michinaga's fourth son, and his mother was Noriko, the daughter of the Minister of the Left, Minamoto Masanobu. He was promoted to Junior Third Rank at the age of 11, and was promoted to Minister of the Left in 1060 at the age of 65. Eight years later, when Emperor Gosanjo ascended to the throne, he became the Kanpaku after his older brother, Yorimichi. He had given his daughters, Ikuko and Kanko (both of whom were daughters of Gon Dainagon Fujiwara no Kinto), to Emperor Gosuzaku and Goreizei as consorts, deepening the feud with Yorimichi, who had also given his two daughters to both emperors. However, since neither of them had a son, this led to the weakening of the position of the regent under the reign of Emperor Gosanjo, who promoted direct rule due to the lack of a maternal relative. In his later years, Yorimichi pressured him to transfer the Kanpaku position to his son, Michizane (Yorimichi had already given the Kanpaku position to him under this promise), but he did not agree. He continued to serve as Kanpaku after Emperor Shirakawa ascended to the throne, but died three years later at the age of 80. The year after Yorimichi's death, he was posthumously awarded the rank of Shoichii. His residence was at Nijo-tai (Nijo-south, Higashi-no-toin-higashi). His diary includes the "Nitoki" (a fragment of which is included in the "Rekidai Zanketsu Nikki"). According to the "Kojidan," he competed with the Minister of the Right Fujiwara no Sanesuke for a prostitute named Koro.
