A town in Myozai County in central Tokushima Prefecture. Occupying the mountainous area in the upper and middle reaches of the Akui River, it is rich in timber such as cedar and cypress. Local specialties include plums and sudachi citrus. Dairy farming and pig farming are also practiced. Shosanji Temple is the 12th temple of the 88 Shikoku temples. Area: 173.30 km2 . 徳島県中部，名西(みょうざい)郡の町。鮎喰(あくい)川上・中流域山地を占め，スギ，ヒノキなど木材を多産。特産物にウメ，すだちなどがある。酪農，養豚も行う。焼山(しょうさん)寺は四国八十八ヵ所12番札所。173.30km2。6038人（2010）。
