Empress of Emperor Ichijo, daughter of Fujiwara Michitaka. Her mother was Takashina no Kishi. In February 990 (Shoreki 1), she became Nyogo (consort) and in October, Chugu (empress). In 996 (Choutoku 2), she became a nun after her elder brothers Korechika and Takaie shot and threatened Emperor Kazan, but she returned to the Imperial Court and gave birth to Princess Shushi and Prince Atsuyasu. In 1000 (Chohō 2), Michinaga's daughter Shoshi became Chugu (empress), and she became empress, setting a precedent for two empresses to be born to one emperor. On December 15 of that year, she gave birth to Princess Bisi, and died the next day. Sei Shonagon served Empress Teishi, and in "The Pillow Book" she describes Teishi's life in detail. However, it is notable that she makes almost no mention of Teishi's misfortunes. [Yutaka Yamanaka] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
