A nobleman in the mid-Heian period. The fourth son of Fujiwara Michitaka. His mother was Takako, daughter of Takashina Naritada, and his childhood name was Ako. In 996 (Choutoku 2), while he was provisional middle counselor, he was exiled to Izumo Gonnokami along with his elder brother, Minister of the Interior Korechika, for the crime of shooting at Emperor Kazan, but remained in Tajima due to illness. In 997, he was recalled along with Korechika due to the illness of Tosanjo-in Senshi (there is an error in the Eiga Monogatari). He returned to Kyoto and became Minister of Military Affairs, regaining his position as a regular official, and later advanced to the rank of Jusanmi. In 1002 (Chōhō 4), he was reappointed as provisional Chunagon, in 1004 (Kankō 1) he was appointed as Shosanmi, in 1007 he was appointed as Junii, and in 1009 he was appointed Chunagon. During the reign of Emperor Sanjo, he fell ill with an eye disease and was appointed Dazai Gon no Sochi in 1014 (Chowa 3) under the pretext of receiving treatment from a famous doctor from Song, and took up his post the following year. He was promoted to Shonii (Senior Second Rank). In 19 (Kannin 3), he gained fame for his bravery when he repelled an attack by Toi bandits. That same year, he resigned from his post and returned to Kyoto, but was not rewarded by the Imperial Court, and in 23 (Jinji 3), he resigned from Chunagon. In 37 (Choreki 1), he was appointed Dazai Gon no Sochi again, and in 42 (Chokyu 3), he resigned. He passed away on January 1, 1st year of Chokyu 5.
