A general term for spiders in the family Salticidae in the order Araneae. The name "jumping spider" comes from their skillful catching of flies, while their English and Chinese names "jumping spider" come from their agile jumping motion. There are about 5,000 known species worldwide, and although they are common in tropical and subtropical regions, they are widely distributed around the world. Large species are just over 20 mm long, while small species are just under 2 mm long. The ends of their walking legs are densely hairy, which is well adapted to their wandering and jumping motions. This group of spiders is highly visually dependent in their behavior, with eight simple eyes arranged in three rows, with the four eyes in the front row facing forward and the two eyes in the third row facing diagonally upwards being large, and the two eyes in the center of the front row being the largest of the eight eyes.
