Fujiwara Itsutsu - Fujiwara no Koremichi

A nobleman in the late Heian period. He was the great-grandson of Michinaga's son, Minister of the Right, Yorimune. His father was Gon Dainagon Munemichi, and his mother was the daughter of Shuri no Daibu Fujiwara Akisue. He served Emperor Shirakawa and became a councillor at the age of 30, but in 1130 (Taiji 5) he was dismissed from his post because he was dissatisfied with the delay in his promotion and did not attend court service. Later, through his son Tamemichi, he gained the favour of Emperor Sutoku, and in 1133 (Chōshō 2) he became Gon Chunagon. After that, he served as Gon Dainagon, Naidaijin, and Sadaijin, before becoming Daijōdaijin in 1167 (Eireki 1). His book "Daikaihisho" explains the mindset of an emperor and was presented to Emperor Nijō. It also gives a glimpse of his upright character, as he preached about the necessity of the emperor ruling directly during the Goshirakawa Insei period.

平安末期の公卿(くぎょう)。道長の子右大臣頼宗(よりむね)の曽孫(そうそん)。父は権大納言(ごんだいなごん)宗通(むねみち)、母は修理大夫(しゅりのだいぶ)藤原顕季(あきすえ)の女(むすめ)。白河(しらかわ)院に仕えて30歳で参議となったが、1130年（大治5）昇進が遅れたことを不満として朝参せず免官された。のち子為通(ためみち)により崇徳(すとく)天皇の寵(ちょう)を得て33年（長承2）権中納言となり、以後、権大納言、内大臣、左大臣を経て60年（永暦1）太政(だいじょう)大臣となる。その著『大槐秘鈔(たいかいひしょう)』は帝皇の心得を説いて二条(にじょう)天皇に奉ったものであるが、後白河(ごしらかわ)院政期に天皇親政の必要を説くなど、その剛直な人柄をしのばせる。
