Norwegian economist. Born in Skedsmo. Graduated from the University of Oslo in 1933, he became an assistant to R. A. K. Frisch at the university's Institute of Economics, but left for the United States in 1939. As the Second World War intensified, he stayed in the United States, earned his doctorate at Harvard University, and took up a teaching position at the University of Chicago. Returning to Norway in 1947, he became a professor at the University of Oslo in 1948, and became a professor emeritus in 1979. Under the tutelage of Frisch, the founder of econometrics, Haubermo constructed an econometric model that applied probability theory. He believed that no matter how precise the model, it would be impossible to accurately represent real economic development because of the complex factors involved, and improved the accuracy of econometric models by introducing the statistical concept of multicollinearity (the probability that several causal variables in a relationship are actually linked in some way and rise or fall together) into econometrics. He is also known for his research on the development of domestic investment ( A Study in the Theory of Investment , published in 1960). Haubermo was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1989 for "establishing a methodological foundation for econometrics through a probabilistic approach." そのほか、国内の投資の発展に関する研究(1960年発表の『A Study in the Theory of Investment』)でも知られる。
