...There are also waraji that are a combination of zori and waraji. The Ashinakawa waraji of Sado, Niigata Prefecture, and the Zori waraji of Hanase, Kyoto City, are ashihan waraji, with ashinaka (foot sandal) in the front and waraji in the back, and the Musha waraji used in Kyushu mountain villages are zori waraji, with a zori sandal in the front and waraji in the back. Ashihan waraji and zori waraji have thick, strong straps and were used for strenuous work such as mountain work and collecting seaweed from rough seashore.
