A village in Ibi County, western Gifu Prefecture. Population 507 (1995). A mountain village on the upper reaches of the Ibi River, surrounded on all sides by mountains over 1000m high, such as Mt. Gongen and Mt. Tengu. Settlements are scattered along the Ibi River, with Yokoyama at its center. Agriculture is self-sufficient, with shiitake mushrooms and myoga ginger being produced. The area has the highest rainfall in the prefecture, and construction of a power plant began at the end of the Meiji period. The multi-purpose Yokoyama Dam, completed in 1964, contributed to depopulation by flooding many settlements, but it also plays an important role in flood control and water supply, in addition to generating electricity for the Yokoyama Power Plant (70,000 kW output).
