A deciduous tree of the legume family that grows in the mountains of Honshu and Shikoku west of the Kanto region. The trunk can reach 15 m, towering and branching. The leaves have short stalks and 8-13 leaflets, which are 5-10 cm long, alternate, and not paired. There are 1-2 linear stipules. In June and July, white butterfly-shaped flowers are produced in a compound raceme. The axis, pedicel, and calyx are densely covered with short brown hairs. マメ科の落葉高木で,関東以西の本州と四国の山地に生える。幹は 15mにも達し,高くそびえて分枝する。葉は短い柄をもち8~13個の小葉から成るが,小葉は長さ5~10cmで互生し,対にはならない。1~2個の線形の小托葉がある。6~7月に,白色の蝶形花を複総状花序につける。軸や花柄,萼には褐色の短毛を密生する。長い莢果は平たく両側に翼があり,両面に毛はない。
