...A theory that seeks to clarify the temperature and density of matter deep inside a star, the reactions that occur there, and the properties of the star as a result. H. Lane and R. Emden were the first to quantitatively treat the internal structure of a star at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. They calculated the distribution of temperature and pressure inside a star, and showed that the star is so hot and high pressured that it does not collapse despite its own weight.

...A star is a gas sphere with high temperature and pressure inside, and maintains a constant size by balancing its own gravity with the pressure of the internal gas. Research into the interior of such stars is called stellar internal structure theory, and was started in the early 20th century by R. Emden (1862-1940) and others. Emden assumed that the pressure p of the gas inside a star is proportional to a power of the density ρ, and investigated the equilibrium state and determined the distribution of the internal pressure, density, etc. ...
