Soro Shiwa - Soro Shiwa

A one-volume treatise on poetry from the Song dynasty in China. Written by Yan Yu, it was completed in the 1230s. In 1268, Huang Gongshao wrote a preface and passed it on to the public. This work is divided into five sections: poetic discourse, poetic style, poetic technique, poetic criticism, and historical investigation, and is the only systematic poetry discourse in the Song dynasty. The core of the argument is against the prosaic style of poetry at the time, and argues for a return to Tang poetry that focuses on emotion. In particular, his argument that "Poetry has a different substance, and is not related to calligraphy (scholarship), and poetry has a different appeal, and is not related to reason (principle)" and his Zen-like theory of "mysterious enlightenment" caused a great stir in later generations, both for and against.

中国、宋(そう)代の詩論書。一巻。厳羽(げんう)の作。1230年代に成立。1268年黄公紹(こうこうしょう)が序を書いてこれを伝えた。この書は、詩弁、詩体、詩法、詩評、考証の五部門からなり、宋代では唯一の体系だった詩話である。論の中心は、当時の散文化した詩風に反対して、情趣を中心とする唐詩に復帰すべしと説くことにある。とくに「詩に別材有り、書（学問）に関するにあらず、詩に別趣有り、理（道理）に関するにあらず」の論と禅的な「妙悟」論とは、後世に賛否両面からの大きな反響を巻き起こした。
