He started out by going by the name of Shirainofuhito. In 719, he was sent to Silla as an envoy. In 720, he was given the surname Muraji. He served as the governor of Bingo and other positions, and was later appointed as Nakatsukasa no Sho. He left behind poems in the Manyoshu and Chinese poetry in the Kaifuso.
