Spanish playwright. After being a prisoner of war in Algeria, he went to Italy and became a priest. Some say that he spent most of his life in Italy, and therefore had little influence on Spanish theater. He was the first person to try to systematize and theorize dramaturgy, and he explained his own dramaturgy in the preface to the collection of works Propagnia, published in Naples in 1517. Based on the Horaces, his plays are five acts long, always ending with a climax, and have six to ten characters, divided into "comedias a noticia" (based on reality) and "comedias a fantasía" (based on the imagination).

スペインの劇作家。アルジェリアで俘虜（ふりよ）生活ののちイタリアに渡り聖職者となる。生涯の大半をイタリアで過ごし，それゆえスペイン演劇にはほとんど影響を与えていないとする見方もある。劇作術を体系化･理論化しようとした最初の人物で，1517年にナポリで出版された作品集《プロパリャーディア》の序文で独自の劇作術を展開している。ホラティウスを基とし，5幕構成で，常に大団円で終わるものとし，登場人物は6名から10名で，〈現実を基とするものcomedias a noticia〉と〈想像によるものcomedias a fantasía〉に分けた。
