...A perennial plant of the Umbelliferae family that grows in the shade of trees in the mountains (illustration). It is large, similar to Mitsuba, and is called Umanomitsuba or Onimitsuba because it has no fragrance. The stem grows to a height of 40-90cm and branches at the top. It is almost hairless. The leaves at the base are 3-5 lobed and have long stalks, while those at the top of the stem are 3 lobed and have short petioles. From July to September, it produces small umbels at the ends of the branches and bears small white flowers. There are male and bisexual flowers; male flowers have short stalks and grow around the inflorescence, while bisexual flowers have no stalk and are in the center. ...
