Liberation Day

Japanese:
Liberation Day
This is a national holiday commemorating August 15, 1945, when Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule. "Liberation" means the restoration of lost homeland and sovereignty. However, it also marks the beginning of a new suffering, the "division of the nation," and is the starting point of modern Korean history, known as the "era of division." August 15 is also a national holiday in North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) as "Liberation Day."
