Dandruff

This refers to small, rice bran-like, grayish-white scales that form when the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis, peels off. It is the colloquial name for dry seborrhea. When it accumulates in large quantities on the skin surface, it can cause redness and itching, which is commonly known as dandruff. It is most common on the hairy scalp, where it is called pityriasis capitis. If left untreated, it can lead to hair loss.

表皮の最表層である角質層がはがれてできた米糠(こめぬか)様の小さい灰白色の鱗屑(りんせつ)をいう。乾性脂漏(かんせいしろう)の俗称である。皮面におびただしく付着して発赤したり、かゆみを訴えることがあり、これを一般にふけ症という。被髪頭部に好発し、とくに頭部粃糠疹(とうぶひこうしん)とよばれる。放置すると、脱毛をきたすことがある。
