Enclosed (enclosed) - Enclosed

Japanese:
Enclosed (enclosed) - Enclosed
A method of binding books. The paper is folded so that the writing and printing sides, that is, the front side, are on the outside and the back side (white) is on the inside, and then bound with string at two points, top and bottom, along the seam on the opposite side of the fold. The name "enclosed binding" comes from the fact that each sheet becomes like a bottomless bag. Therefore, the way the paper is folded and the seams are reversed from those of detsuyo binding. Japanese-bound books usually have four or five folds, with four folds being the Chinese style and five folds being the Korean style. Enclosed binding is said to have begun in the early 14th century during the Yuan dynasty in China, but after the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty (1573-1619), a similar binding method of binding with thread became popular.
